The Cider Orchard

'According to many farmers, Dorset was the first county in England to make cider. It claimed that the art of cider-making was first introduced into this county by monks from Northern France who settled in a village near Bridport some time before the Norman Conquest' (ref below).

In 1938 there were many cider orchard areas around West Milton and we thought we'd try to revive some of the old countryside landscape - so we've planted 16 cider apple trees in our field in the hope of making some good old fashioned West Milton cider with our local club. It is a long term project but one we are very happy to be taking on. When fully established the orchard will provide a beautiful blossom display in the spring and hopefully lots of apples to make use of in the summer!
